Day #24 • Learn a New Language

Do you know someone that is bilingual? Does it ever shock and amaze you how quickly they can switch between languages, conjugating verbs and pulling vocab seemingly from nowhere, without ever breaking the stream of conversation?

Wanna be like them?

Learning a language is easier than ever before.

With dozens of apps and programs on the market for it, it’s a wonder more of us aren’t bi- or trilingual. But, that’s not to say that it doesn’t require work and dedication. You have to stay focused and really dig in to understand all the ins and outs of a language, which can be difficult because languages are ever-evolving entities. With new words and phrases constantly being added to the English lexicon, it may seem rather impossible to remember everything about your native language AND add in a whole new language as well.

BUT, fear not–the perks of knowing more than one language far outweigh the roadblocks.

Did you know? Speaking two or more languages not only gives you street cred in multiple countries, but it also boosts your mental agility. After some time, you might find that it’s easier to multitask or pay attention. It’s more natural for the bilingual brain to quickly edit out information that’s irrelevant and hone in on what’s important. That means your productivity levels will skyrocket because your brain is constantly filtering out unimportant info, leaving all sorts of room for brand new, up to date info!

An added bonus: multilingualism also makes you more attractive. Seriously, it’s been proven. (Muy caliente! 🔥)

So, are you intrigued? You can start small, with a language learning app like Babbel or Duolingo, a language learning podcast, or some good old fashioned flash cards

It’s also super fun to learn a new language with a partner OR with your kids. Make this a group activity and start daydreaming about your next trip abroad, knowing that both you and your family will have more active and intuitive minds ready to conquer every new city you visit.

Here’s to conquering new worlds, one language at a time. 💪
