Last year, I joined my husband on a business trip, and while I was there, I visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). It had been a while since I had been to a museum, so I added it to my “must do” list before we made the trip. During my husband’s conference, I wandered over to explore on my own.
It had been a while since I had a “me” day. Wandering the floors of artwork and making space for myself to soak in the inspiration really was good for my soul. There were a LOT of photography exhibits while I was there, including this retro photo booth, which was like heaven for me.
It energized me in ways I was able to bring home creatively AND gave me some alone time for self-reflection.
I had a blast dating myself on that trip. However, I get that museums can be time consuming, far away and not all that easy on the wallet (but do explore if they have days where admission is FREE, many do that monthly!). If you haven’t been able to make it to a museum in a while for whatever reason, but would love to immerse yourself in some art, girl do I have a solution for you!
Visit museums virtually.
Fun fact: you can “walk the halls” of a LOT of museums, all from the comfort of your living room! Several museums around the world have gone digital, allowing viewers to experience their breathtaking beauty from the palm of their hands. In times when travel and money are tight, sit back and explore some of the greatest and most famous artwork and sculptures in the world, without losing a single penny.
Observing art can be therapeutic in so many ways. The great thing about museums is that you get beauty and culture in every piece you see. There’s such rich history in each stroke of the paintbrush, in each frame of a photograph, in every curve of a statue. Artists who spent hours and hours of their day to perfect something that would last long after they were gone.
I love art. I love how vibrant, dynamic, and painstakingly detailed it is. I love the character of a piece. Finding the character, the essence, inspires me in my own work. I try to emulate that in each photo I take. Your character, your essence, is art to me.
So go ahead. Enjoy some art this week. Let it inspire you. Share some wine with Picasso. Chill with Van Gogh over brunch. Make dinner with Monet. (Okay, I’m done now.)
Have you been to any museums recently? What’s your favorite?
